At this year's status conference, the project report and two doctoral research proposals were presented.

The BMFTR Junior Research Group “Educationally Successful Families? Intergenerational and Interdisciplinary Perspectives on First-Generation Students” (BiFam) at TU Dortmund University participated in the status conference in Halle (Saale) on September 14 and 15, 2026. The conference took place at the Francke Foundations on the campus of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU). It was hosted by the Center for School and Educational Research (ZSB) at MLU and the GreAk project.

Following the keynote address by Prof. Dr. Manfred Stock (MLU) on the topic “Academization—On the Relationship Between Higher Education Expansion and Changes in the World of Work,” six projects presented their current progress on the first day: CAM4transfo, BiFam, MiA, GreAk, RegelWerk, and KIWIT. For BiFam, project leader Dr. Frerk Blome provided an overview of the current status. The project examines how families experience and shape educational advancement when children pursue higher education while their parents did not. To this end, the team conducts multigenerational family biographical interviews in which students participate together with at least one parent. More information about the research project.

On the second day, the focus was on doctoral projects. Michi Hügel and Liesa Traupe presented their dissertation proposals for the project using posters. During the discussion that followed, they engaged in conversation with doctoral candidates from the other projects.

The BiFam research project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) under the “Science and Higher Education Research” funding line and runs from June 2025 to May 2028.
