Project Launch: "Research Community: Diversity and Society"
The Research Community on Diversity and Society - initiated by Prof. Aladin El-Mafaalani (TU Dortmund University), Prof. Isolde Karle (Ruhr University Bochum), and Prof. Nicolle Pfaff (University of Duisburg-Essen) – brings together 18 university department members from the humanities, social sciences, and education to further develop diversity research across multiple locations. The focus is on analyzing social, cultural, and institutional forms of diversity and their significance for participation, recognition, and justice in a society of migration. Thematic topics range from educational equity, migration, inclusion, and religious diversity to the study of discrimination, racism, hate, and social polarization. Gender studies, a long-standing priority at UA Ruhr, plays a central role in this effort. The community builds on existing international networks and, through new initiatives such as the “Certificate Program in Diversity and Gender,” also strengthens the integration of these topics into teaching.
