The Advisory Board supports the sustainable transformation in North Rhine-Westphalia and advises the state government on the implementation, evaluation, and further development of the Sustainability Strategy.NRW.

North Rhine-Westphalia is an industrial state, a metropolitan area, a hub for science, and home to 18 million people. In the coming years, this region will determine how economic strength, climate protection, social inclusion, and quality of life can go hand in hand. With the Sustainability Strategy.NRW 2026 “Life in North Rhine-Westphalia,” the state government has established the foundation for its sustainability policy in the coming years.

The strategy encompasses six areas of transformation: quality of life, health, and social cohesion; climate protection, energy, and heating; mobility and transportation; industry and the circular economy; climate adaptation, nature, and resources; and education and participation. These areas translate the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals into reality in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The sustainability strategy serves as the foundation for sustainability policy in North Rhine-Westphalia. Behind the sustainability goals are concrete measures from all departments—ranging from funding programs and advisory services to events, as well as information and networking opportunities. This provides all organizations, activists, and citizens with a reliable foundation for their decisions and actions.

The Sustainability Advisory Board consists of 17 members from a wide variety of sectors of society.
