Presentation by Dr. Anna Cornelia Reinhardt on Living Together in an Aging Society of Migration

In recent years, migration-related and socio-structural dynamics have led to a particularly profound pluralization of society. Germany is currently undergoing a phase of intense demographic, social, and cultural transformation: the population is aging
—while at the same time becoming younger and more diverse as a result of migration.
Issues of migration and diversity have thus become central areas of social conflict in which belonging and participation are being renegotiated. At the same time, the persistence of social inequalities, structural disadvantages, and the (re)production of discrimination in the context of migration are among the most well-documented findings in inequality research.
This presentation combines these developments and uses them as a starting point to explore how coexistence in an increasingly diverse society can be shaped under conditions of social inequality in an aging society of migration.
